A motorcyclist snatched two gold necklaces from a Russian tourist on Sunday night as she walked back to her hotel with her husband.

A 25-year-old Russian woman was left in a state of shock on Sunday night when a motorcyclist snatched two gold necklaces from her neck on the sidewalk in the Nong Prue area of Pattaya.

The tourist resort as well as Phuket and the southern islands including Ko Samui, is currently witnessing a welcome boost in Russian tourist numbers.

Women bent down to tend to her child

The incident occurred at 11.30 pm on Sunday as the young woman bent down to tend to her young child on Soi Wat Bunkanjanaram.

Walking back to the hotel with her husband

The woman, who has filed a complaint with the Pattaya police, said through an interpreter that she was walking back to the hotel with her husband and the couple’s 3-year-old daughter when the incident occurred.

She has been named as Elena Pankratova.

Gold valued at ฿55,000

Pattaya police are investigating the incident and will refer to CCTV footage from the area. The value of the gold stolen by the motorbike snatcher is estimated at ฿55,000.
