Senior police commanders are monitoring the survivors across four hospitals while maintaining contact with their families. Meanwhile, flowers and offerings have covered the school fence as parents, students and residents mourn the dead. One mother recalled learning of the shooting just 16 minutes after dropping off her daughter. A local vendor also remembered a slain teacher planning a master’s degree and a deputy principal who recently helped install CCTV cameras.

On Sunday, Pol Maj Gen Pakpong Saiubon released the latest update on the seven survivors. He is Deputy Spokesperson for Provincial Police Region 1. Crucially, he confirmed that doctors no longer considered any of the seven critically injured.

Earlier, Pol Lt Gen Wattana Yijin had ordered senior police commanders to follow developments closely. He is Commander of Provincial Police Region 1. His instructions covered hospital visits, monitoring the injured and maintaining support for their families.
As part of this, Pol Maj Gen Dechraphee Kongdee was assigned to oversee the response in Nonthaburi. He is Commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Police. Commanders and superintendents from police stations across the area were also brought into the operation.
Significantly, the latest hospital checks showed improvement among every injured survivor. Doctors confirmed that all seven were out of critical condition and considered safe. However, they remained under medical care and continued observation across four hospitals.
In parallel, Provincial Police Region 1 ordered officers to maintain continuous communication with the hospitals. Personnel were also instructed to provide close support to the injured and their families. Senior commanders continued monitoring the situation throughout Sunday.
Outside the school, however, attention turned to those who did not survive Friday’s shooting. Parents, students and local residents converged on the main gate throughout August 9. Flowers, snacks and drinks steadily accumulated along the school fence.

Debsirin Nonthaburi School is located in Plai Bang Subdistrict, Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province. Two days earlier, the campus had become the scene of the deadly shooting. By Sunday, its entrance had become a focal point for those paying their respects.
Throughout the day, people continued arriving with offerings for the teachers and students who died. Flowers were placed against the fence alongside food and drinks. The growing display marked the deaths inside the school only two days earlier.
For one mother, Friday’s nightmare began just 16 minutes after an ordinary school drop-off. Ms Thida Panjaroen, 30, had left her daughter at the school shortly before the shooting. Then came news that gunfire had broken out.
Immediately, Ms Thida raced back to the school searching for her daughter. She was shocked by what had happened. Eventually, she was able to confirm that her daughter was safe.
Mother calls for tighter school security after learning of shooting just 16 minutes after drop-off
In response, Ms Thida called for tighter security around the school. She proposed scanning people entering and leaving the campus. Moreover, she wanted additional security guards and tougher patrols around the perimeter.
Separately, another parent recalled hearing several gunshots during the incident. The parent urged families to pay closer attention to their children. Parents should act like friends and listen to their children’s problems, the parent said.
At the same time, the parent called for closer monitoring inside the school. Teachers were asked to watch children’s behaviour more carefully. The request followed the deadly events of August 7.
Beyond the school gates, Friday’s deaths also struck people who knew staff members through everyday contact. Among them was “Auntie Ouan”, a fried meatball vendor outside the school. One teacher who died had been her regular customer.
Notably, the vendor knew the teacher as “Teacher Khun Nun”. She had recently visited the stall and bought meatballs. During that encounter, the teacher spoke about her plans for further education.

“Teacher Khun Nun” told Auntie Ouan that she intended to pursue a master’s degree. The conversation was still fresh in the vendor’s memory after Friday’s shooting. By Sunday, she was mourning a customer she had expected to see again.
On another front, Auntie Ouan also remembered the school’s deputy principal, who died in the shooting. Only one month earlier, the deputy principal had been working on student security. She helped coordinate the installation of CCTV cameras near an area where students regularly gathered.
Specifically, the cameras were installed to improve safety around that section of the school. The deputy principal had helped arrange the work. Yet Auntie Ouan said she never imagined such an attack would occur inside the campus.
By Sunday, the contrast outside the school was stark. CCTV cameras had recently been installed with student safety in mind. Now flowers, food and drinks were accumulating along the fence after nine deaths.

Inside four hospitals, however, the medical picture had improved considerably. Doctors had completed their latest checks on all seven injured people. None remained in critical danger.
Furthermore, every injured survivor was considered stable and safe. They continued receiving treatment and close medical monitoring. Police officers remained in communication with hospital personnel as their recovery continued.
At police command level, the response also remained active. Pol Lt Gen Wattana had assigned senior officers to personally follow the survivors’ progress. Pol Maj Gen Dechraphee was overseeing the Nonthaburi police response.
Likewise, commanders and superintendents from local police stations were instructed to remain involved. Their responsibilities included visiting injured survivors and monitoring their conditions. Police Region 1 also ordered continuing assistance for families affected by the shooting.
For Ms Thida, the attack unfolded with frightening speed. Only 16 minutes separated dropping her daughter at school from learning about the shooting. She then rushed back before eventually discovering her daughter was safe.
