From charity appeals to prison cells: Boom Panadda and husband Got share a prison bus after a court detention order. Police probe ฿527m in suspected diverted donations, with transfers to personal accounts, investments and a Phuket villa. Both deny wrongdoing.
Thai actress and former beauty queen Boom Panadda and her husband shared a prison bus on Saturday after the Criminal Court ordered both detained in Bangkok. The celebrity declined to seek bail, while her husband’s ฿1 million application was rejected. Meanwhile, police revealed that ฿527 million, nearly 65% of ฿815 million in charity donations, had allegedly been diverted for personal use. Investigators exposed transfers into private accounts, luxury purchases, investments and suspicious Phuket villa payments. The couple were subsequently separated into two prisons as police pursued fraud and money laundering allegations involving millions of donations collected over eleven years.

Thai actress and former beauty queen Panadda Wongphudee was sent to prison in Bangkok on Saturday amid a massive charity fraud investigation. Her husband, fitness enthusiast Athip Anantawan, was also jailed after the Criminal Court rejected his ฿1 million bail application.
Police subsequently revealed that ฿527 million in public donations had allegedly been diverted for personal benefit. The figure represents nearly 65% of the ฿815 million collected through three bank accounts since 2015. By Saturday evening, the couple were behind bars at separate Bangkok detention facilities.
The 50-year-old actress, widely known as Boom Panadda, did not even apply for bail on November 7. Her 53-year-old husband, known as Got, attempted to secure his release with ฿1 million in cash.
Court refuses husband’s ฿1 million bail bid as police detail diversion of ฿527 million in donations
However, judges refused the application after considering the investigation’s scale and concerns about interference with witnesses. Consequently, both were remanded in custody following their appearance at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road. They later shared a prison transport vehicle before being separated at two detention facilities.
Saturday’s most significant revelations emerged during a briefing at the Central Investigation Bureau headquarters in Bangkok. Economic Crime Suppression Division Commander Police Major General Thatphum Jaruprat detailed the suspected diversion of charitable funds.
Investigators traced approximately ฿815 million through three accounts controlled by Panadda. Of that amount, police identified ฿527 million in transactions allegedly unrelated to the foundation’s charitable objectives. Only around ฿280 million was identified as expenditure connected to its activities.
The suspected diversion accounted for approximately 64.7% of the donations examined. In parallel, investigators uncovered extensive transfers involving personal accounts, financial investments, luxury purchases and property development.
Police trace charity transfers through personal accounts as actress and husband face separate charges
Police are tracing payments involving Panadda, her husband, foundation committee members and construction contractors. The inquiry covers millions of transactions collected over almost eleven years. Investigators are attempting to establish how the money moved and where it ultimately went.
Panadda faces accusations of public fraud, computer crime and money laundering. Her husband faces a separate money laundering allegation. Notably, police said they had not established sufficient evidence directly connecting Athip to the suspected public fraud.
Instead, investigators identified substantial transfers into his accounts and his alleged involvement in moving assets. Both defendants deny criminal wrongdoing.
The investigation began after donors and members of the public complained to the Economic Crime Suppression Division last week. They suspected their contributions had not been used for the charitable purposes advertised.
In response, investigators examined bank statements, foundation records and financial transactions involving the couple. Their findings led to arrest warrants and the suspects’ surrender to police on Friday. Both remained in custody before Saturday’s court proceedings.
According to Police Major General Thatphum, Panadda began collecting charitable donations online in November 2015. Initially, she used a bank account registered in her personal name.
Her fundraising appeals appeared on Facebook and promoted various charitable activities. At the time, her reputation as a former Miss Thailand and actress helped attract contributions. Police said her public profile and involvement in social work were important elements in the fundraising operation.
In 2017, Panadda established a Facebook page for the Goodness Foundation, known locally as Ongkorn Thamdee. However, contributions continued flowing into her original personal bank account.
Panadda’s charity fundraising began in 2015 before three accounts received ฿815 million in donations
The organisation subsequently expanded its fundraising activities while retaining the original banking arrangements. Despite its growing public profile, the account remained under Panadda’s personal control.
In March 2022, Panadda formally registered the foundation in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district. Four months later, the organisation opened a bank account under its registered name. Nevertheless, the original personal account remained active and continued receiving donations.
As a result, contributions were collected through both personal and foundation accounts. Police later identified these arrangements as important elements in the financial investigation.
Further changes followed in 2025 when plans emerged to relocate the foundation to Pathum Thani. A third account was opened to collect donations for construction of a new foundation facility. Police described this as another personal account associated with Panadda.
Investigators subsequently established that she retained authority over all three principal accounts. Documents showed that she controlled payment authorisations and personally handled financial transactions.
Between November 2015 and the current investigation, the three accounts received approximately 3.2 million transactions. These involved more than one million donor accounts and totalled around ฿815 million.
Yet investigators identified approximately ฿527 million in transactions considered inconsistent with the foundation’s charitable objectives. Police said the suspected misuse involved numerous financial arrangements rather than a single transfer. The inquiry covers almost eleven years of fundraising.
Police divided the suspicious financial movements into 12 categories. These included personal transfers, cash withdrawals, investments, credit card payments and luxury purchases.
Separately, money moved through accounts associated with contractors, foundation committee members and relatives. Investigators cautioned that some transactions involved money moving between accounts rather than separate financial losses. Accordingly, the individual figures cannot simply be added together to calculate the total suspected diversion.
Police identify huge transfers to personal accounts, relatives and investments from charity donations
Among the largest transactions were transfers totalling ฿249 million into additional personal accounts associated with Panadda. Another ฿99 million was transferred into accounts belonging to her husband.
Investigators also identified approximately ฿42 million withdrawn in cash at bank counters. Police are examining the destinations of these funds and the purposes of the transfers. The amounts form a substantial part of the financial evidence presented during Saturday’s briefing.
Further scrutiny identified ฿36 million transferred to members of the foundation’s committee. Another ฿4.6 million was transferred to Panadda’s father. However, investigators have not established that every recipient committed an offence.
Police are examining whether the payments represented legitimate expenditure or unauthorised use of donations. The recipients’ roles remain under investigation.
Investigators also identified approximately ฿24 million invested in mutual funds. Elsewhere in the accounts, another ฿19 million was used for credit card payments associated with Panadda. Police discovered ฿10 million spent on life insurance policies naming the actress as beneficiary.
Withdrawals from mutual fund investments were subsequently used to purchase jewellery and luxury handbags. Investigators valued these luxury purchases at approximately ฿2.7 million.
Phuket villa payments come under scrutiny as police trace millions returning through contractor accounts
Additional expenditure included housing costs and common-area maintenance charges. Police are examining whether such payments were authorised under the foundation’s stated objectives.
On another front, the investigation has extended to construction projects and property developments associated with the couple. These transactions have become a significant part of the suspected money laundering investigation.
Particular attention has fallen on construction payments involving luxury pool villas in Phuket. Police identified more than ฿90 million passing through accounts associated with contractors involved in property development.
Investigators subsequently traced nearly ฿50 million flowing back towards accounts linked to Athip. Some money allegedly returned to accounts associated with Panadda. The movements raised further questions about the purpose of the original contractor payments.
Police Major General Thatphum said the transactions exceeded agreed construction costs. Consequently, investigators are examining whether contractor payments were inflated before money returned to privately controlled accounts.
Police also identified approximately ฿18 million paid to contractors building a Phuket pool villa. These payments are being examined alongside the wider property transactions. Investigators are tracing the movement of funds between contractors and accounts associated with the couple.
Police examine Pathum Thani building payments, frozen assets and missing foundation financial reports
Similar financial patterns emerged during scrutiny of the foundation’s proposed new premises in Pathum Thani. Investigators are examining whether charitable donations were transferred through construction contracts before returning to personal accounts.
Nevertheless, the purpose of every payment has not been conclusively established. The money laundering investigation remains active, with contractors and financial records under examination.
Police have also seized or frozen substantial assets associated with the inquiry. These include bank accounts, luxury vehicles and property. Earlier investigations identified assets exceeding ฿100 million, including 22 vehicles and six firearms.
Authorities are examining ownership records and the sources of funds used to acquire them. Investigators are also reviewing whether any assets were purchased using money originally collected through charitable appeals.
The inquiry has exposed further irregularities in the foundation’s administration. Investigators found no records of annual committee meetings or annual reports submitted to the registrar.
Such reporting was required under the organisation’s legal obligations. Furthermore, the foundation had reportedly paid taxes during only its first two years of operation. These findings were included in the evidence presented during Saturday’s police briefing.
Foundation tax and reporting failures deepen police inquiry as Panadda challenges claims of wrongdoing
Police Major General Thatphum explained that non-profit status did not automatically remove tax reporting obligations. The foundation was required to declare relevant donation income and provide financial information to the authorities.
As part of this examination, investigators considered the reporting failures alongside suspicious bank transactions when assessing possible fraudulent intent. The Ministry of Interior has also been asked to examine the foundation’s operations and compliance with registration requirements.
During questioning, Panadda denied the criminal accusations. However, police said she acknowledged personally handling financial transactions. She also admitted that some money had been used for purposes different from those stated in fundraising appeals.
She maintained that she had become confused by the enormous number of transactions. Investigators challenged that explanation after examining bank records and payment authorisations.
According to police, transaction notifications were repeatedly sent to Panadda’s telephone. Documents also showed that she retained control over the three principal accounts. Investigators argued that the volume and value of payments were significant.
They questioned whether she could have remained unaware of the financial movements. Nevertheless, her explanations remain part of the evidence under investigation, and the Criminal Court has not determined her guilt.
Husband denies wrongdoing as police question transfers and couple’s public claims of marital separation
Athip also denied wrongdoing during questioning. He reportedly told investigators that he had carried out financial transactions according to his wife’s instructions. Yet police identified substantial transfers into his accounts.
Investigators are examining his role in receiving money, transferring assets and handling payments connected to the foundation. Although police have not directly connected him to public fraud, they believe his financial activities may constitute money laundering.
Police also examined Panadda’s earlier public statements about her marriage. On October 27, the actress tearfully announced plans to divorce her husband. She claimed their relationship had deteriorated and that they were sleeping separately. However, the Central Investigation Bureau subsequently challenged that account. Investigators said evidence suggested the couple continued living together as husband and wife.
In addition, police questioned whether the separation announcement was intended to distance Panadda from her husband’s financial activities. Investigators considered the couple’s living arrangements relevant to their examination of the money trail.
Couple surrender and face 12-day remand as court rejects husband’s ฿1 million application for bail
The couple surrendered to authorities on Friday after the Criminal Court issued arrest warrants. They remained in police custody before being transferred to court on Saturday morning. Athip departed Central Investigation Bureau headquarters at approximately 9.50 am. Panadda followed around five minutes later. Both were taken to the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road for remand proceedings.
Investigators requested an initial 12-day remand, arguing that further questioning and financial examination were necessary. Police also opposed temporary release because of concerns about possible interference with evidence and witnesses.
Panadda declined to submit a bail application. Her husband, however, sought temporary release by offering ฿1 million in cash. The Criminal Court rejected his application after considering the investigation’s scale and the risks identified by police.
The remand proceedings also referred to approximately 900,000 donor accounts and a wider suspected financial impact exceeding ฿900 million. Notably, that figure differed from the ฿815 million detailed during Saturday’s police briefing.
The latter concerned the three principal donation accounts examined by investigators. Both figures formed part of the proceedings as authorities continued examining the financial evidence.
Court orders detention before actress and husband share prison transport to separate Bangkok facilities
The Criminal Court approved the remand applications, leaving both defendants facing immediate detention. Meanwhile, Panadda’s lawyer, Ekkasit Srisang, known as Lawyer Petch, indicated that the defence would stop commenting publicly. He said further statements could be interpreted as interference with judicial proceedings. The couple’s next steps would therefore be handled through the legal process.
By late afternoon, Corrections Department officers were preparing to transfer the couple into prison custody. Despite their separate legal positions, both were placed in the same prison vehicle outside the Criminal Court.
The transport departed at approximately 4.25 pm. Panadda reportedly sat towards the rear, behind darkened windows. Their first destination was the Central Women’s Correctional Institution in Bangkok.
The vehicle arrived at approximately 4.37 pm, where officers transferred the actress into custody. Meanwhile, Athip remained aboard for the journey to Bangkok Remand Prison. The transport subsequently continued to the men’s detention facility.
Athip arrived at approximately 4.53 pm, reportedly sitting in the front passenger seat. Consequently, the husband and wife shared their journey from court before being separated into different prisons.
Prison officials impose five-day quarantine, restricted visits and medical checks on detained couple
Corrections Department officials later outlined the arrangements for their detention. Both defendants must undergo an initial five-day reception and quarantine period. During that time, only their appointed lawyers will be permitted to visit. Legal consultations may also take place through video conferencing facilities. After the initial quarantine, prison authorities will permit visits from approved relatives.
Each defendant may provide a list of ten relatives authorised to visit. Prison officers will also assess their personal circumstances and determine appropriate accommodation. The reception process includes checks on personal information, case details and medical requirements.
Officials will conduct physical examinations and review any existing medication. Furthermore, prison authorities said the defendants would not be placed alongside opposing parties or complainants.
The Corrections Department said these arrangements formed part of standard detention procedures. Both remain unconvicted defendants awaiting further criminal proceedings.
Their initial placement will be reviewed after the five-day quarantine period. In the meantime, their lawyers retain access through the arrangements established by prison authorities.
Investigators continue tracing ฿527 million in suspected diverted donations as couple remain in custody
Investigators are continuing to examine contractor payments, foundation records and the roles of additional individuals. The Anti-Money Laundering Office is expected to scrutinise relevant assets and financial transactions.
Separately, police are tracing money transferred between personal accounts, foundation accounts and construction contractors. The inquiry covers millions of transactions collected over approximately eleven years.
The ฿527 million figure remains central to the investigation. Police allege that almost two-thirds of the donations examined were diverted from their advertised charitable purposes. However, investigators have not established that every suspicious payment represented a separate financial loss.

The financial evidence includes transfers between accounts, investments, cash withdrawals and payments to third parties.
By Saturday evening, Panadda and Athip were being held at separate Bangkok prisons. The actress faced accusations of public fraud, computer crime and money laundering. Her husband faced a money laundering allegation. Neither had been convicted. Police continued tracing the donations, examining financial records and investigating the movement of assets.
The Criminal Court’s remand decision leaves both defendants in custody while investigators continue examining the evidence. Further proceedings will determine whether additional charges or applications for temporary release follow.
For the moment, the investigation centres on ฿815 million in donations and the alleged diversion of ฿527 million. Both defendants remain in prison as police pursue the financial transactions and individuals connected to the case.
