Crimes of passion are quite common in Thailand. On Friday, police arrested a 30-year-old man who last Sunday set his 35-year love partner alight after a quarrel between them turned violent.

A Thai man killed his 24-year-old girlfriend in a fit of jealousy on Wednesday after she admitted to being attracted to her superior at a nearby hotel where she was training as an intern.

33-year-old Nawatt Boonchiew from Sisaket broke down in an emotionally charged interview at Pattaya City police station in the early hours of Thursday morning following his arrest. He admitted killing his Thai girlfriend and explained that he had ‘loved her too much’ causing her death in a physical outburst spurred by jealousy.

Thai police in Pattaya have charged a 33-year-old man from Sisaket province in connection with the death of his girlfriend who was found in her bed at the rented room the couple shared in the Bang Lamung area on Wednesday last the 21st August.

The man had been named as Nawatt Boonchiew. He surrendered to police who were looking for him in connection with the incident. It is reported that investigating officers made contact with the man’s mother in Sisaket asking her to intercede with her son.

Arrest of Sisaket man announced on Thursday

The arrest of the man was announced early on Thursday morning by two senior police officers involved in the investigation. These are Major General Nanthachat Suphamongkhon who is the chief of police for Chonburi and Police General  Phongphan Wongmanetrarak of the Pattaya City Police.

The deceased woman was 24-year-old Patcharaporn or Nong Fa. Her surname has not yet been released by police.

Police called after her body found in a rented room in Bang Lamung, Chonburi on Wednesday

Major General Nantachat told the media that police were called to the scene last Wednesday evening when the victim’s body was discovered on Phra Tamnak Hill on the Nong Prue area of Bang Lamung in Chonburi. The young woman was known to be a student at a local school.

They soon found out that Nong Fa shared the room with her older boyfriend and set out to find him.

Mr Nawatt, once in the custody of the police, quickly and emotionally explained what had happened. He had become jealous and angry with his girlfriend after she admitted to him that she favoured her boss at the hotel where she was working as an intern.

Her boyfriend told police that he felt shamed by her comments and reacted with fury. He hit Nong Fa across the face and tragically, her head hit the corner of the bathroom door. His girlfriend collapsed and was unresponsive. Nawatt then lifted her from the floor and put his girlfriend to bed. It was the last time he saw her alive.

The Thai man was questioned by senior police officers on Thursday morning at Pattaya City Police station following his arrest. He broke down a number of times while recounting the story. He told officers that he had ended up killing his girlfriend because he ‘loved her too much’ and could not control his jealousy.

Afterwards, he was charged with causing the death of his love partner or the equivalent of involuntary manslaughter and will stand trial.

Man in southern Thailand arrested for setting fire to his girlfriend after a row tuned violent

Crimes of passion by both men and women in Thailand are increasingly common. On Friday, police arrested another young Thai man who is suspected of setting his girlfriend on fire and assaulting her causing serious injury including extensive burns to her body. The 35-year-old Thai woman is currently being treated in hospital where she is in serious condition. The woman is also reported to have suffered a destroyed cornea and swelling to the brain.

The shocking incident happened on Sunday night last, the 18th of August in Southern Thailand. The attacker has been named as 30-year-old Songkran Chaiyo.

Older relative of the tacker saved the woman’s life

A 74-year-old relative of the accused had witnessed the altercation between the couple and quickly responded when he saw the woman go up in flames. He managed to save her life and called emergency services.

The attacker walked away during the ensuing pandemonium and was apprehended by Thai police five days later.
