A dream wedding on Koh Samui ended in tragedy last Thursday when British tourist Kyle Campbell, 32, from Westhoughton, Bolton, died in his sleep after being discharged from hospital with a head injury sustained in a motorbike crash on the island. His death, just days before he was due to marry his Thai fiancée, prompted his family to question the medical treatment he received, while a public appeal to bring him home has surpassed its fundraising target and a separate fatal crash involving another Brit rider has renewed concern over motorbike deaths in Thailand.
A British man’s dream wedding in Thailand ended in tragedy after he died days before the ceremony following a motorcycle crash. Kyle Campbell, 32, from Westhoughton, Bolton, died on Thursday, July 30, after being discharged from hospital with a head injury.
Campbell had travelled to Thailand to marry his fiancée, Kannika Masasai. The couple had been together for two and a half years. Instead of celebrating their wedding, relatives in Britain received news that he had died in his sleep.
Earlier, Campbell had been involved in a motorcycle accident during his stay. He suffered a head injury and was taken to a local hospital. Medical staff treated him before discharging him.
Family questions hospital treatment after Campbell dies in his sleep days before his planned wedding
However, the outcome shocked his family. On July 30, they were informed that Campbell had died while asleep. The sudden death came only days before the couple were due to exchange vows.
In the aftermath, relatives began questioning the treatment he received after the crash. According to Campbell’s family, they were later told the medical care provided had been inadequate. That allegation has not been independently verified.
Notably, neither the hospital involved nor the exact location of the accident has been publicly identified. Likewise, no official findings have been released regarding the treatment Campbell received before leaving hospital.
The family’s concerns have therefore centred on the period between his discharge and his death. Even so, no official investigation into his medical care has been announced. The family’s claims also remain unverified.
Meanwhile, Kannika Masasai paid an emotional tribute to her fiancé on social media. She wrote that he would always remain in her heart. She also said she would cherish their memories together forever.
Campbell leaves behind his 12-year-old son, who lived with him in Britain.
Appeal surpasses £10,000 target as relatives arrange repatriation and funeral after tragedy in Thailand
As the family confronted the practical consequences of his death, attention quickly turned to bringing him home. Campbell’s cousin, Dianne Fisher, launched a fundraising campaign to cover repatriation costs, funeral expenses and other related costs.
According to the Daily Mirror, the appeal set an initial target of £10,000. Public support arrived quickly. By yesterday, donations had reached £10,955, comfortably exceeding the original goal.
In response, Fisher thanked everyone who had contributed. She expressed gratitude for the kindness, generosity and support shown during what she described as the most difficult time of the family’s lives.
Campbell’s death has drawn particular attention because it followed his discharge from hospital after a head injury. At the same time, there has been no official confirmation linking his treatment to his death. No medical findings have been released publicly. The family’s concerns therefore remain unverified.
Separately, another British motorcyclist also lost his life in Thailand in an unrelated crash near Pattaya. The victim, aged 66, had returned to the country only one day earlier. He was riding with friends when disaster struck.
High-speed U-turn crash kills second British rider as Koh Samui road safety fears continue to mount
Witnesses said two motorcycles approached a U-turn at high speed. The lead rider completed the manoeuvre and continued towards Pattaya. Moments later, the second rider failed to make the turn.
Instead, the motorcycle slammed into a U-turn sign. The impact hurled the rider and machine in opposite directions. The force of the collision left the victim fatally injured.
Emergency responders attended the scene. However, the 66-year-old British man died from his injuries. Authorities have not released his identity.

On another front, witness accounts suggested speed played a role in the collision. The first motorcycle continued its journey after completing the U-turn. The second rider never recovered after striking the roadside sign.
Although the two tragedies were unrelated, both involved British nationals travelling by motorcycle in Thailand. Campbell’s case has attracted particular attention because death came only days before his planned wedding. Moreover, it followed his release from hospital after treatment for a head injury.
For Campbell’s family, preparations for a wedding have instead become preparations for a funeral. Meanwhile, public donations have already secured the funds needed for repatriation and funeral costs. Even as those arrangements continue, relatives are still questioning the medical care he received before his death.
