Dashcam footage captured key exchanges after the Israeli family allegedly tried to make the couple leave the vehicle. The August 9 clash ended without injuries, arrests or reported police action. However, it emerged the same day as a separate Bangkok hotel dispute involving Israeli tourists, adding further attention to complaints about tourist behaviour in Thailand.
An Israeli tourist has been accused of threatening a Patong tuk-tuk driver during a heated roadside showdown in Phuket. The confrontation erupted after an Australian couple had already hired the vehicle. It unfolded at about 8.15 pm on August 9 on Thawiwong Road in Patong, Kathu district. Crucially, the tuk-tuk’s dashcam captured significant parts of the clash.
The dispute began earlier when a family of five Israeli tourists approached the driver. The group comprised a couple and their three children. According to the driver, they asked about the fare for a journey around the Patong beach area. However, the two sides failed to agree on a price and went their separate ways.
Shortly afterwards, an Australian couple approached the same tuk-tuk. They agreed on a journey to the Bangla area and climbed aboard. By then, the Israeli family had returned. The driver said they asked to share the Australians’ journey.
Driver refuses Israeli family’s request as row erupts over Australian couple already inside the tuk-tuk
Instead, the driver refused because the Australian couple had already booked his vehicle. He directed the Israeli family towards another tuk-tuk parked nearby. At that point, the disagreement quickly escalated. The driver claimed the family became angry after he rejected their request.
Notably, the Australian couple then became directly caught up in the confrontation. The driver accused the Israeli man of telling them to leave his tuk-tuk. According to his account, the family wanted the vehicle for themselves. The driver refused and insisted on taking the passengers who had already hired him.
As a result, a heated verbal confrontation broke out beside the tuk-tuk. The driver claimed the Israeli tourist shouted at him and used vulgar language. He also accused the man of ordering him to leave the area. Meanwhile, the Australian passengers remained inside the vehicle.
Significantly, parts of the exchange were recorded by the tuk-tuk’s dashcam. The footage showed all five members of the Israeli family standing beside the vehicle. One family member could also be heard repeatedly using an expletive. In response, the driver said he did not want passengers behaving in that manner.
Israeli tourist accused of trying to lift heavy concrete barrier as heated Patong confrontation escalates
The confrontation then took a more threatening turn, according to the driver. One man moved towards a heavy concrete object positioned beside the road. The driver described it as a concrete slab or barrier. He claimed the tourist then tried to lift it during the argument.
However, the concrete object proved too heavy. The man reportedly struggled to lift it and ultimately failed. The driver said he feared the object could be used to assault him. Despite the attempt, no physical attack involving the concrete barrier occurred.
Separately, the driver accused the tourist of spitting on the road during the confrontation. He also claimed family members continued verbally abusing him. Still, no injuries were reported during the roadside dispute. Eventually, the driver left the scene with the Australian couple.
The confrontation then moved from Thawiwong Road to social media. Afterwards, the driver published dashcam footage showing parts of the dispute. A Facebook account named “Oiltuktukpatong Saranate” posted the recordings.

The first video carried a pointed caption: “Let’s see what the Israeli family did.” Additional footage followed, providing further views of the roadside confrontation. Alongside the videos, the driver set out his allegations against the Israeli family.
In particular, he accused the tourists of verbal abuse following the disagreement over the ride. He also highlighted the alleged spitting and the attempt to lift the concrete object. Furthermore, he accused them of trying to interfere with the Australian couple’s journey.
The footage was subsequently reposted by the Phuket Times Facebook page. Consequently, the confrontation quickly attracted widespread attention online. Social media users focused heavily on the treatment of the Australian passengers. The attempt to lift the concrete object also attracted attention.
At the heart of the dispute was a straightforward tuk-tuk booking. Initially, the Israeli family asked the driver for a fare. They walked away after failing to reach an agreement. Minutes later, the Australian couple approached and successfully booked the vehicle.
Israeli family returns after Australian couple books tuk-tuk as driver’s footage fuels online attention
Then, the Israeli family returned after the Australians had boarded. They asked to travel with them, according to the driver. When he refused, he pointed them towards another tuk-tuk. The situation subsequently spiralled into the roadside argument captured on camera.
For his part, the driver said he had spent several decades working in Phuket’s tourism industry. He strongly objected to the behaviour he said occurred that evening. Specifically, he criticised verbal abuse and attempts to intimidate other people. He said such conduct should not occur in a tourist destination.
Nevertheless, the allegations remain principally based on the driver’s account and his published footage. There was no reported public response from the Israeli family in the supplied information. Likewise, there was no confirmation that police had opened a criminal investigation.

On another front, a separate dispute involving Israeli tourists surfaced in Bangkok on August 9. A Thai bodybuilder and his wife complained about a group staying at their hotel. They claimed the tourists repeatedly banged on their hotel room door at about 4 am.
According to the couple, the door banging was carried out as a prank. They also accused the group of making loud noises at the hotel. The bodybuilder later publicly criticised the reported conduct. Additionally, he said followers contacted him with accounts of similar negative experiences involving Israeli nationals.
Importantly, the Bangkok episode was entirely separate from the Phuket confrontation. There was no reported connection between the tourists involved in the two incidents. Both episodes were reported on August 9.
Back in Patong, the tuk-tuk confrontation remained centred on the driver’s decision to honour the Australians’ booking. The Israeli family had already failed to agree on their own fare. The Australians then arrived, struck an agreement and boarded.
Minutes later, according to the driver, the Israeli family returned and wanted to join the same journey. He refused and offered them the alternative of another nearby tuk-tuk. Instead, he claims, the disagreement escalated into shouting and abuse.
Moreover, the driver accused the Israeli man of attempting to push the Australian couple out of the arrangement. He said the tourist told them to leave the vehicle. The driver refused to comply and continued backing his existing passengers.
