After more than two weeks in a Georgian morgue, Hlun Solo’s body returns to Thailand on Thursday. His family will seek a second autopsy before funeral rites as Georgian investigators withhold key findings.
The body of Thai travel YouTuber Hlun Solo will return to Thailand on Thursday, nearly a month after he travelled to the eastern European nation of Georgia and more than two weeks after he was found dead there. However, his family’s search for answers will only intensify. They have ordered a second autopsy in Thailand before funeral rites can begin, as Georgian investigators have yet to release official autopsy and toxicology findings despite repeated diplomatic requests, leaving key questions surrounding the death of one of Thailand’s best-known travel creators unresolved.

The decision comes as Thai officials complete the final stages of repatriation while Georgian authorities continue their investigation into his death.
According to the family, the additional examination will be conducted at the Central Institute of Forensic Science under the Ministry of Justice. The second autopsy is intended to ensure every procedure is completed thoroughly and transparently.
Once the body arrives, the examination is expected to take one to two days. Only afterwards will funeral rites begin at the family’s home.
Family confirms repatriation schedule as second autopsy will precede funeral rites in Thailand
In a Facebook update posted on Monday evening, Hlun Solo’s elder brother, Klose Mos, confirmed the repatriation remains on schedule. The body will leave Georgia on August 5 and is due to arrive in Thailand on Thursday, August 6.
Following its arrival, it will be transferred directly for the second forensic examination. Funeral arrangements will proceed only after that process is completed. However, the family said the date, time and venue will be announced later, once every detail has been finalised.
Meanwhile, the family thanked supporters across Thailand and overseas for the overwhelming response following Hlun Solo’s death. They expressed particular gratitude to Chulalongkorn University President Wilert Puriwat, Political Science Dean Pakorn Siriprapob, the Faculty of Political Science and the Rural Scholarship Program. Those organisations have offered to host the first evening of funeral prayers after Hlun Solo returns to Thailand.
In response to hundreds of inquiries, the family also explained how supporters could assist with the funeral. They stressed they are not seeking financial donations. Instead, they invited people to contribute practical equipment needed for the ceremonies.
Family seeks practical funeral support instead of money as tributes continue after Hlun Solo’s death
Requested items include tents, tables, chairs, electric fans, sound systems, lighting equipment, portable toilets, drinking water and other essential supplies. The family said this approach allows everyone wishing to pay their final respects to contribute according to their own means.
Hlun Solo, whose real name was Bowornthat Pengsuk, was among Thailand’s best-known travel content creators. He died in Georgia while filming travel content.
Nevertheless, the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation by the Georgian authorities. The official autopsy findings have yet to be released. Toxicology results also remain outstanding.
Separately, the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara confirmed fresh progress in the repatriation effort. On August 4, at 3 pm, embassy officials inspected and prepared Hlun Solo’s body before its return to Thailand.
Thai volunteers in Georgia joined the inspection. Representatives from the transport company also took part. Together, they checked the packaging of the body before it began its journey home. The embassy said the repatriation schedule has already been communicated directly to the family and all relevant parties.
Thai embassy presses Georgia for autopsy and toxicology reports as repatriation moves ahead
At the same time, embassy officials confirmed they are still awaiting Georgia’s official autopsy report. The toxicology report has also not yet been completed. Consequently, the embassy has formally asked the Georgian authorities to expedite both documents.
It has also requested the early return of Hlun Solo’s personal belongings. Coordination with the Georgian side remains ongoing while those requests are processed.
Before departure, embassy officials will travel to Tbilisi International Airport to supervise every stage of the repatriation. They will oversee the transfer of the body onto the aircraft before returning to their diplomatic duties. Even then, coordination with the Georgian authorities will continue until every outstanding matter has been resolved.
On another front, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued its own update through the Director-General of the Department of Information and ministry spokesperson Ms Jaithai Upakarnnitikaset.
She confirmed embassy officials, Thai volunteers and transport company representatives had completed preparations for the body’s return. The repatriation schedule has also been communicated directly to Hlun Solo’s relatives.
Foreign ministry assigns officials as embassy pursues reports and personal belongings from Georgia
As part of this, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Acting Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs to assist once the body arrives in Thailand. That support will continue throughout the arrival process.
In parallel, Thai volunteers in Georgia and the prospective Honorary Consul to Georgia remain in close contact with local agencies. Their role is to ensure every remaining procedure progresses without delay.
Notably, the embassy has also written to the Georgian authorities requesting the rapid release of the official autopsy findings and toxicology report. It is pursuing the return of Hlun Solo’s personal belongings through the same diplomatic channels. Officials said they will continue monitoring both matters until they are completed.

In his latest Facebook update, Klose Mos also shared the family’s appreciation for the assistance already received. He thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara, embassy officials, Thai volunteers and everyone involved in bringing Hlun Solo home. He also thanked the many supporters who have continued following every development since his brother’s death.
His message concluded: “I would like to provide an update (August 4th, 2026) on the repatriation of my brother’s body to Thailand as follows…”
He added: “Currently, the travel schedule is proceeding as planned. The body will depart Georgia on August 5, 2026, and is scheduled to arrive in Thailand on August 6, 2026.”
The family also confirmed: “If there are any further developments, the family will inform everyone as soon as possible. Thank you for all the support sent to our son and family.”
