A wife’s nose triggered a remarkable adultery hunt after she detected perfume and a freshly showered scent on her husband’s underwear. Detectives disguised as rubbish collectors and fruit vendors then secured photographs, recordings, physical evidence and witness testimony. On September 1, a central Thailand court dissolved the marriage and awarded her ฿2 million. Her husband accepted the verdict and waived an appeal, ending the sensational “smelly underwear” divorce case.
A wife has won ฿2 million after an unfamiliar smell on her husband’s underwear exposed his adultery. A provincial court in central Thailand delivered the verdict on September 1. The court also dissolved their marriage, granting both demands in her lawsuit. Crucially, the husband accepted the decision and will not appeal.
The wife attended the hearing as the plaintiff alongside Hathaya Annteng, widely known as “Lawyer Hong.” Meanwhile, her husband appeared with his legal representative to hear the scheduled judgment. Both men accepted the ruling after the court announced its decision. Consequently, the extraordinary “smelly underwear” divorce case ended without another legal battle.
The court ordered the husband to pay his wife ฿2 million for committing adultery with another woman. In addition, it formally terminated the couple’s marriage under her legal claim. The husband and his lawyer immediately ruled out an appeal. Therefore, the wife received the full compensation awarded by the court.
Wife’s discovery of unfamiliar scent on husband’s underwear launches adultery case and online storm
Her legal team celebrated a victory built upon one highly unusual clue. Months earlier, the wife noticed that her husband’s underwear carried a different smell. However, that first discovery soon triggered a covert investigation. Photographs, video recordings, physical evidence and witness testimony followed.
The case first burst into public view during early May. At that point, Lawyer Hong revealed the wife’s extraordinary consultation on her personal Facebook account. “I smelled my husband’s underwear and it smelled different. Can I sue?” the woman asked. “The smell isn’t the same as before. It’s a true story.”
Unsurprisingly, the post quickly spread across social media and attracted widespread criticism. Many questioned whether a changed scent could prove adultery. Yet the smell was never the wife’s complete case. Instead, it became the first link in a much stronger chain of evidence.
The wife had lived with her husband for many years and knew his scent intimately. According to “Detective Boy,” she immediately recognised that something had changed. Notably, the underwear carried an unfamiliar perfume she had not noticed before. It also smelled exceptionally clean and fresh, as though her husband had just showered.

Taken together, those details hardened her suspicions. More specifically, she became convinced that her husband was secretly meeting another woman. In response, a detective team began tracking the husband and documenting his movements. First, the investigators had to identify him while keeping their operation hidden. They then deployed disguises to work nearby without revealing themselves. At one stage, team members posed as rubbish collectors.
Separately, investigators disguised themselves as fruit vendors while continuing the surveillance operation. The costumes allowed them to blend into the surroundings and remain close to their target. From there, the team followed the husband and recorded his meetings. Its members worked carefully to secure photographs and video evidence.
Before long, the surveillance produced far more than an unusual smell. Investigators obtained photographs and recordings showing the husband meeting other women. Furthermore, they gathered physical evidence and witness testimony supporting the wife’s case. The adultery claim was now backed by several separate forms of evidence.
Underwear scent becomes circumstantial evidence as photographs and witnesses drive divorce lawsuit
As part of this effort, the team meticulously documented the husband’s movements and encounters. Each new item strengthened the material available for court. By contrast, the original underwear clue remained circumstantial evidence. Its importance rested upon where it led investigators next.
Lawyer Hong later addressed the bizarre starting point directly. Admittedly, she said, a legal case beginning with smell sounded almost unbelievable. Legally, however, the wife’s observation amounted to circumstantial evidence. It then led to photographs, physical material and witness accounts.
In practical terms, the court was not asked to decide the case through smell alone. Rather, the legal team presented the complete package gathered during the investigation. That material included physical evidence, witness testimony, photographs and video recordings. Collectively, it placed the husband’s conduct at the centre of the lawsuit.
According to Ms Hathaya, the combined evidence firmly implicated the husband. She said the material made any claim of innocence impossible to sustain in court. Subsequently, the wife filed for divorce and demanded compensation for the adultery. Her lawsuit sought the termination of the marriage and a substantial financial award.

The proceedings eventually reached their decisive stage on September 1. On that day, reporters gathered as the parties arrived at the provincial court. The wife stood beside Lawyer Hong, who had taken the case from suspicion to judgment. Across from them, the husband waited with his own lawyer.
Once proceedings began, the court delivered a complete victory for the wife. It found that her husband had committed adultery with another woman. Accordingly, the judge ordered him to pay ฿2 million in compensation. The court also granted the requested divorce and formally ended their marriage.
Importantly, the husband did not challenge either part of the judgment. His lawyer likewise accepted the ruling and confirmed there would be no appeal. Thus, the compensation order and divorce became the final outcome. No further hearing was needed to settle the dispute.
The wife secured the complete ฿2 million payment following the verdict. At the same time, her legal team welcomed the conclusion of the closely watched case. The result delivered every major remedy requested in her lawsuit. It also closed the dispute without prolonged appellate proceedings.
The case had travelled an extraordinary route to the courtroom. Initially, an unfamiliar fragrance raised the wife’s suspicions inside the couple’s home. Afterwards, Lawyer Hong publicised the unusual consultation through Facebook. Investigators then entered the picture with disguises, surveillance cameras and a clear assignment.

Ultimately, the wife’s knowledge of her husband’s scent started the entire case. The unfamiliar perfume provided the first warning. The fresh, shower-like smell deepened her belief that he was seeing another woman. Still, it was the later evidence that drove the court action.
