A jealous lover shot dead a 56-year-old school janitor after the victim’s wife ended their secret affair, police said. She witnessed Thursday’s killing inside their Phang Nga home and tried desperately to stop the gunman. The suspected killer then fled armed, abandoning his motorcycle below Bang Lam mountain. Police surrounded the rugged terrain as relatives joined efforts to secure his surrender.
A jealous lover shot dead a 56-year-old school janitor inside his Phang Nga home on Thursday, police said. The gunman then escaped with the firearm and fled towards a nearby mountain. Within hours, police had surrounded the rugged area and launched a major manhunt.
The killing unfolded in Bang Lam village, within Tha Yu subdistrict of Takua Thung district. Police identified the suspected gunman as Kitti, 38, whose surname was withheld. Notably, he had been secretly involved with the victim’s wife.
The woman ended their relationship on August 24, just three days before the shooting. According to investigators, Kitti became enraged and refused to accept her decision. Worse still, he had previously threatened to kill her husband if she ended their affair.

Takua Thung Police Station received the shooting report on August 27. Officers rushed to the house in Moo 2 after learning a man had been shot. In response, Police Colonel Prakob Boonkhwan led investigators and other officers to the scene.
Inside, police found the 56-year-old janitor dead from a gunshot to his head. He had been killed inside the home where he lived with his wife. By then, Kitti had already disappeared with the weapon.
The victim suffered catastrophic injuries across his head and face. Police found a wound behind his right ear, which had been severed. In addition, investigators recorded two wounds on his right cheek and another on his forehead.
The initial police account said the gunman fired once at the victim’s head. However, the bulletin did not identify the firearm or ammunition used. Nor did police recover the weapon during their examination of the house.
The dead man’s wife witnessed the attack from only a short distance away. Before the shooting, her husband had been sitting beside the house’s back door. Nearby, she was eating longan fruit at the dining table.

Suddenly, she heard the bedroom door opening and went to investigate. She then saw Kitti entering the house while carrying a gun. At that point, she realised her husband was in immediate danger.
The woman moved to stop Kitti from reaching the seated janitor. Despite her intervention, he ignored her and pressed forward with the firearm. Moments later, he fired at her husband’s head and killed him instantly.
The victim collapsed inside the house and died at the scene. Meanwhile, Kitti rushed from the property before officers could reach Bang Lam village. Crucially, he carried the firearm away with him.
Police immediately began tracing his escape route from the family home. Initially, Kitti fled through the area on a red Honda motorcycle. Its registration number remained unknown, complicating the first stage of the search.
Investigators learned that the motorcycle had headed towards Bang Lam mountain. Shortly afterwards, search teams found it abandoned at the foot of the mountain. Consequently, police believed Kitti had left the motorcycle and continued into the higher terrain.
Officers swiftly shifted the manhunt from the village to the mountain. As a result, police surrounded the area and began sealing possible escape routes. Search teams then moved into the terrain while other officers held the outer cordon.

In parallel, local officials and village leaders joined the operation. Their knowledge of the area helped police cover the mountain and surrounding approaches. The search continued as officers worked to prevent Kitti from slipping back towards nearby communities.
The Takua Thung district chief also travelled to the search area. On arrival, he coordinated with police, local leaders and the wanted man’s relatives. Together, they opened a second effort aimed at persuading Kitti to surrender.
As part of this, officials asked his relatives to contact him. Family members were urged to convince him to leave the mountain and hand over the gun. Nevertheless, police continued treating the operation as an armed manhunt.
The firearm remained missing throughout the latest stage of the search. For that reason, officers worked on the basis that Kitti still carried it. Police maintained the cordon while relatives continued their surrender efforts.
Separately, investigators began reconstructing the events leading directly to the killing. Their inquiry uncovered Kitti’s secret relationship with the victim’s wife. It also established that she had ended the affair three days earlier.

The break came on August 24, according to the police investigation. Following that decision, Kitti became angry and refused to accept that the relationship was finished. He had already threatened deadly action if the woman continued trying to leave him.
That threat focused directly on her 56-year-old husband. Against that background, Kitti entered the couple’s house with a firearm on August 27. The wife then watched him ignore her pleas and shoot the janitor in the head.
At the same time, crime-scene officers documented the brutal injuries inside the property. They examined the area near the back door where the victim had been sitting. They also recorded the wife’s movements from the dining table towards the bedroom door.
Her statement gave police a direct account of the attack from beginning to end. First, she heard the door opening while eating longan fruit. Next, she discovered Kitti inside the house with the gun.
She then tried to place herself between Kitti and her husband. Even so, the gunman continued towards the back door and fired. Afterwards, he escaped with the weapon and reached the red motorcycle.
Abandoned Honda leads police to Bang Lam mountain as armed manhunt pushed into Thursday night
The abandoned Honda later gave search teams their strongest lead. From there, officers concentrated on Bang Lam mountain and tightened the cordon. On another front, community leaders helped identify possible paths through the area.
Police continued checking the mountain as darkness approached. Throughout the operation, relatives remained available to help secure Kitti’s surrender. Local leaders also stayed involved in coordination with the district chief.

Officials expected Kitti could be brought down from the mountain during Thursday night. Until then, police kept officers positioned around the entire search area. The missing firearm ensured the operation remained tense and active.
No arrest had been announced in the latest police bulletin. Likewise, there was no report that the gun had been recovered. The mountain remained surrounded as the armed fugitive hunt pushed into the night.
