฿118 million in crypto transfers, nearly 10,000 transactions and a political storm. Former Democrat MP Sirichok Sopha challenges Suchada over her husband’s Shuffle.com stake and her job at the ministry tasked with shutting down gambling sites in Thailand.
Former Democrat MP Sirichok Sopha has opened a new front in the gambling scandal engulfing Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Sangtanasap. On Tuesday, he handed DSI investigators evidence of nearly 10,000 cryptocurrency transactions worth ฿118 million linked to Shuffle.com. However, his sharpest attack concerns Suchada’s appointment under Digital Economy Minister Chaichanok Chidchob, despite knowing about Australian husband Taiyang Zhang’s gambling investment. Meanwhile, Sirichok demands answers over Shuffle.com’s continued accessibility in Thailand and Zhang’s disputed 1.47% shareholding. Suchada denies wrongdoing. Now, with People’s Party MP Rangsiman Rome also pressing the case, the controversy is closing in on Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s ruling party.

Former Democrat Party MP Sirichok Sopha has intensified his campaign against Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Sangtanasap over her Australian husband’s gambling interests. On Tuesday, he presented evidence to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) concerning cryptocurrency gambling giant Shuffle.com.
His findings include nearly 10,000 cryptocurrency transactions reportedly worth ฿118 million. However, the controversy now extends beyond her husband’s disputed 1.47% shareholding. Sirichok is questioning why Suchada joined the Digital Economy Ministry despite knowing about her husband’s gambling investment.
In addition, he wants answers about why Shuffle.com remained accessible in Thailand until October. The former aide to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has returned to prominence amid the escalating dispute. Meanwhile, investigators face questions involving a Bhumjaithai MP, her wealthy husband and the ministry responsible for suppressing online gambling.
Sirichok takes his evidence to DSI as questions grow over Suchada’s husband’s Shuffle.com stake
Sirichok, 59, arrived at the DSI’s Technology and Information Crime Division at 3 pm on Tuesday, 20 October. The former Songkhla MP met investigators handling case number 148/2569, concerning the international gambling platform Shuffle.com.
At the centre of the investigation is Taiyang Zhang, the Australian husband of Chaiyaphum MP Suchada Sangtanasap. Zhang previously held a reported 1.47% stake in the cryptocurrency casino and sports betting business.
However, Suchada insists he sold his investment before she entered parliament. She maintains that the shares were therefore absent from her relevant parliamentary asset declaration.
Sirichok disputes whether the available corporate documents establish when the shares were transferred. More significantly, he has raised questions about Suchada’s previous appointment under Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob.
The ministry is responsible for suppressing illegal online gambling and blocking gambling websites. Sirichok says Suchada has acknowledged knowing about Zhang’s gambling investment before accepting the ministerial position. Consequently, he wants investigators to examine whether her appointment involved a possible conflict of interest.
Sirichok questions why Shuffle.com remained accessible as investigators receive fresh gambling evidence
The former Democrat politician has also challenged the government’s handling of Shuffle.com. He claims the platform remained accessible to Thai customers until approximately 8 October.
In contrast, the Digital Economy Ministry announced blocking measures on 9 October. Sirichok questioned whether the website restricted Thai access itself rather than being directly shut down by government officials. He also asked whether political connections influenced its treatment. However, no investigative finding has established that Suchada or Chaichanok protected Shuffle.com.
Nevertheless, Sirichok’s accusations have widened a controversy initially focused on Zhang’s investment and Suchada’s financial declarations. The former MP continued his public challenge on Wednesday, 21 October, following Tuesday’s DSI interviews.
Suchada and Zhang had already answered investigators’ questions concerning the gambling business. However, Sirichok arrived with additional material which he believes could extend the investigation. He described financial records, corporate documents and evidence of gambling activity involving Thai customers. Notably, he claims to possess advertising videos and information concerning gambling prizes paid in Thailand.
Nearly 10,000 cryptocurrency transfers worth ฿118 million become central to Sirichok’s DSI submission
His principal financial allegation concerns cryptocurrency transactions involving approximately ฿118 million over three years. According to Sirichok, the records contain nearly 10,000 transactions.
He believes investigators can trace the money through cryptocurrency exchanges, including Thailand’s Bitkub platform. Separately, Sirichok referred to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s involvement in examining relevant transactions.
He argued that regulated cryptocurrency exchanges possess customer identification information and transaction records. Accordingly, investigators should be able to identify account holders and determine where the funds went.
Sirichok said records involving transfers between Bitkub and Shuffle.com could provide important evidence. Yet the reported ฿118 million represents an aggregate transaction value. It has not been established that the entire amount constitutes illegal gambling proceeds.
Nor has it been established that Zhang controlled those transactions or that Suchada personally received any money. Even so, Sirichok maintains that the records warrant detailed examination. He wants investigators to establish who transferred the funds, who received them and whether gambling offences occurred.
Sirichok invokes Thai gambling and computer crime laws over offshore casino’s dealings with customers
In addition, he believes the financial trail could identify individuals involved in operating or managing the platform. Sirichok referred specifically to Thailand’s Gambling Act of 1935. He also discussed potential offences under the Computer Crime Act of 2007.
Shuffle.com operates internationally through overseas corporate structures, including entities associated with Curaçao in the Caribbean. Nevertheless, Sirichok argues that overseas registration does not automatically exclude criminal liability under Thai law. He claims Thai customers used the website and transferred money through cryptocurrency accounts.
Sirichok says he also possesses evidence of gambling prizes being paid in Thailand. According to his interpretation, the Gambling Act does not require gambling operations and advertising to occur simultaneously. He argued that investigators should examine customer participation, financial transfers and promotional activity separately.
Furthermore, he rejected suggestions that Thai-language advertising was essential to establishing an offence. Instead, he pointed to financial transactions and evidence of gambling activity involving people in Thailand.
Former Democrat MP challenges gambling jurisdiction arguments and urges DSI to trace Thai transactions
Sirichok compared the jurisdictional questions with previous enforcement action involving overseas cryptocurrency exchanges. He specifically mentioned Binance, which previously faced Thai regulatory action over its activities.
However, he distinguished cryptocurrency investment services from an online gambling business. He argued that the legal provisions governing gambling required separate examination. Sirichok also rejected suggestions that investigators needed complaints from individual gamblers before proceeding. He said suspected criminal offences could be investigated without a formal complaint from a victim.
On that basis, he argued that the DSI could begin by identifying Thai customers using the website. Investigators could then trace financial transactions to individuals managing or benefiting from the operation.
He said the evidence should determine whether further criminal proceedings were justified. Nonetheless, Sirichok acknowledged that investigators must establish the facts and intentions of those involved. The financial records alone do not establish criminal responsibility against every person associated with the platform.
Suchada’s move to Digital Economy Ministry draws questions over knowledge of husband’s gambling stake
His most politically sensitive accusations, however, concern Suchada’s appointment to the Digital Economy and Society Ministry. Speaking before his DSI interview, Sirichok said the controversy had moved beyond the question of concealed shares.
He pointed to Suchada’s latest explanations concerning her knowledge of Zhang’s gambling investment. According to Sirichok, she acknowledged knowing about the business before serving under the Digital Economy Minister. He contrasted that acknowledgement with her earlier statements about not knowing the details of her husband’s business activities.
Crucially, he questioned why she accepted a position in the ministry responsible for combating online gambling. Suchada previously served as secretary to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.
She subsequently moved to the Digital Economy and Society Ministry. Sirichok wants to establish why that transfer occurred. He also questioned whether her husband’s business interests were relevant to the appointment. However, no evidence presented establishes that Suchada secured the position to influence gambling enforcement.
Shuffle.com access and UFABET activity raise questions over Thailand’s online gambling enforcement
Even so, Sirichok argues that her knowledge of Zhang’s investment requires examination alongside her ministerial responsibilities. The timing of Shuffle.com’s restrictions on Thai customers has become another central issue.
According to Sirichok, the platform remained accessible until 8 October despite government campaigns against illegal gambling. He questioned whether the company voluntarily restricted access following the controversy. Additionally, he wants investigators to determine whether officials previously knew about the business and its Thai customers.
On another front, Sirichok questioned why other gambling platforms appeared to remain accessible. He specifically mentioned UFABET.com, another website he has criticised publicly. He claimed Thai customers used that platform for approximately 700,000 gambling transactions monthly.
However, that figure remains his assertion rather than an independently established finding. He said he had previously raised the website’s activities several times. Despite this, he questioned why enforcement action appeared to produce different results across gambling platforms.
The former MP wants the DSI to examine whether official decisions explain those differences. He also wants investigators to establish the precise circumstances surrounding Shuffle.com’s restriction of Thai access.
At the same time, the dispute over Zhang’s shares remains unresolved. Suchada maintains that her husband disposed of his 1.47% interest before she entered parliament. She says the transaction explains why the investment did not appear in her relevant parliamentary asset declaration.
Corporate records from 2024 fuel dispute over when Zhang sold his shares and what Suchada declared
Sirichok, however, disputes suggestions that his evidence consists entirely of old corporate records. He referred to a 2024 shareholder register associated with BBI. Moreover, he said he possessed documents from Curaçao confirming updates to the corporate register.
Sirichok questioned whether any amendments had been made retrospectively. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that investigators would need to establish whether documents had been altered. The existence of a corporate register dated 2024 does not necessarily establish continued ownership throughout that year.
As a result, the effective dates of any share transfers remain important. Sirichok said the National Anti-Corruption Commission should examine potential irregularities involving asset declarations. In parallel, he wants the DSI to investigate the gambling operation and any possible links with political officeholders.
Suchada has rejected suggestions of wrongdoing. She maintains that Zhang sold his shares before she became an MP. She has also criticised Sirichok for combining historical documents with more recent information.
Suchada and Sirichok trade barbs over Wallpaper nickname as dispute over Shuffle.com turns personal
Following Tuesday’s questioning, Suchada said she remained confident about her position. Zhang has also indicated his willingness to cooperate with investigators. Meanwhile, the dispute has developed into an increasingly bitter public confrontation.
On Tuesday, Suchada compared Sirichok to wallpaper appearing whenever she opened her mobile phone. The remark revived a nickname associated with his years working for former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Sirichok frequently appeared behind Abhisit during television interviews and political appearances. Consequently, observers began calling him Wallpaper.
The nickname became a familiar feature of his political career. In response, Sirichok turned Suchada’s remark back against her. He suggested that seeing his face on a mobile phone was preferable to opening one and seeing Shuffle.com. He also recalled knowing Suchada before she adopted the nickname Idea.
According to Sirichok, she was previously known as Nong Fai. He suggested that changing her nickname might explain her apparent failure to remember him. Nevertheless, he insisted he held no personal grudge.
Former Songkhla MP’s political career spans Democrat governments and scrutiny of Thaksin businesses
The exchanges have revived attention on a veteran Democrat Party politician who left parliament three years ago. Born on 14 June 1967, Sirichok is a former Songkhla MP with a long history of political investigations.
He studied in Thailand and Britain, attending Eastbourne College before studying chemistry at King’s College London. He subsequently obtained an MBA from Prince of Songkla University. His early political career included unsuccessful attempts to win a parliamentary election in Bangkok. However, he secured a Songkhla seat in January 2001.
The victory established him within the Democrat Party’s traditional southern political base. Sirichok subsequently developed close relationships with senior Democrat politicians. He worked with former Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai and became particularly associated with Abhisit Vejjajiva.
During Abhisit’s premiership from 2008 to 2011, Sirichok served as his private secretary. Consequently, he operated close to the centre of government during a period of intense political confrontation.
Thailand was then experiencing repeated disputes involving the Democrats and parties associated with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Sirichok became a prominent participant in those battles.
He developed a reputation for examining corporate records and the financial interests of political opponents. In particular, his scrutiny of Shin Satellite attracted national attention. The company had previously been associated with Thaksin’s business empire. Sirichok also appeared regularly in political television programmes.
From Blue Sky television to private business, Sirichok’s career returns to focus amid gambling probe
These included broadcasts associated with Blue Sky Channel and other prominent Democrat Party figures. Furthermore, he became known for publicising documents and directly challenging political opponents. His methods occasionally produced legal disputes. In 2017, a civil court ordered him to pay ฿2 million in damages following a defamation case.
The dispute concerned Facebook statements involving a business family.
Sirichok remained involved in Democrat Party politics for several more years. His parliamentary career then suffered a setback in the 2023 general election. He failed to regain a seat and subsequently announced his withdrawal from active politics.
At the time, he said he wanted to make way for younger politicians. He then concentrated on business interests. These included hospitality and food manufacturing. His family has been associated with the Squidy snack business. Additionally, he has operated an aquarium-themed hotel in Bangkok.
Retirement from parliament, however, did not end his interest in political controversies. On Tuesday, Sirichok insisted that he was acting independently rather than representing the Democrat Party. He said he rarely visited party headquarters and spent most of his time managing business activities. Moreover, he rejected suggestions that his investigation was connected to the approaching parliamentary no-confidence debate. He also denied pursuing Suchada because of a personal dispute.
Sirichok says Rangsiman Rome’s parliamentary intervention prompted his independent gambling inquiry
According to Sirichok, his involvement began after he watched People’s Party MP Rangsiman Rome raise the issue in parliament. He said Suchada’s response attracted his attention. He then began examining corporate documents and cryptocurrency records.
Sirichok claims that his investigation uncovered information which warranted further scrutiny. Subsequently, he publicised his findings before presenting material to the DSI. He rejected suggestions that the exercise was designed to revive his political career.
He said he was acting as an ordinary citizen. Furthermore, he argued that losing an election did not prevent someone from examining public officeholders. Sirichok also denied coordinating his activities with opposition politicians.
He said the investigation began independently after he watched Rome’s parliamentary intervention. Nevertheless, the two politicians are now pursuing related questions through different channels. Rome is examining the controversy through parliament. Sirichok, meanwhile, is presenting information directly to investigators and challenging Suchada publicly.
The former Democrat MP has also suggested that he possesses further evidence. During Tuesday’s appearance, he referred to having a trump card. However, he did not disclose precisely what additional information it might contain.
DSI inquiry examines offshore gambling claims as justice minister rejects suggestions of favouritism
Instead, he said the available evidence should be examined before conclusions were reached. He also acknowledged uncertainty about how investigators would handle the case. Sirichok raised concerns about the future treatment of evidence but urged attention to the current investigation.
Separately, he wants the DSI to treat the matter as a special case involving transnational gambling. He believes the overseas corporate structures and cryptocurrency transactions justify coordination between investigative agencies. Sirichok has also called for examination of the website’s access restrictions in Thailand.
He wants investigators to determine who initiated the changes and when they occurred. Moreover, he questioned whether the company’s actions were influenced by the growing political controversy. These questions have not yet been answered by completed investigative findings.
Justice Minister Police Lt Gen Rutthaphon Naowarat has rejected suggestions that the DSI investigation was designed to clear Suchada. He said the department began examining the matter on 8 October.
Consequently, the inquiry predates Tuesday’s interviews and Sirichok’s evidence submission. However, his intervention has added further material for investigators to consider. The inquiry now involves corporate ownership records, cryptocurrency transactions and possible gambling activity involving Thai customers.
Separate gambling investigations place political links and enforcement decisions under fresh scrutiny
Investigators must also determine whether any conduct falls within Thai criminal jurisdiction. Separately, the NACC could examine asset declarations if evidence warrants further action.
The political questions extend beyond Zhang’s original shareholding. Sirichok is challenging Suchada’s knowledge of the investment while she held a position under the Digital Economy Minister. Furthermore, he is questioning whether Shuffle.com received different treatment from other gambling websites. However, no established evidence shows that Suchada influenced enforcement decisions concerning the platform.
Nor has any finding established improper conduct by Chaichanok. The former MP’s accusations therefore remain matters requiring investigation. Nevertheless, they have brought additional scrutiny to a ministry responsible for major gambling enforcement measures.
The controversy also follows separate proceedings involving Kla Tham MP Chonnapat Naksua. Chonnapat faces prosecution in another online gambling case, alongside substantial asset freezes. Meanwhile, Rangsiman Rome has questioned the different circumstances surrounding politically connected individuals.
Democrat supporters back Sirichok as Suchada’s gambling controversy reaches Bhumjaithai government
He has demanded documentation establishing when Zhang disposed of his Shuffle.com investment. The separate cases have generated political arguments over consistency in gambling enforcement. However, no established investigative finding links Chonnapat’s case with Zhang’s former investment.
The scrutiny of Suchada has also attracted attention from Democrat Party supporters. On Wednesday, Kanjanee Walyasevi, known as Ting Tang, publicly defended Sirichok. She suggested that his knowledge of the controversy explained the intensity of the criticism directed against him.
In addition, she encouraged him to continue examining the affair. Her comments reflected political support rather than independent evidence of wrongdoing. Nevertheless, they demonstrated how the dispute had attracted figures from Sirichok’s former political circles.
For Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s Bhumjaithai Party, the controversy has become an additional source of public scrutiny. Suchada is a party MP representing Chaiyaphum. Meanwhile, Chaichanok Chidchob holds the Digital Economy and Society portfolio in Anutin’s government.
The ministry has responsibility for combating illegal gambling websites and related online activities. Consequently, Suchada’s previous ministerial appointment has become central to Sirichok’s campaign.
DSI faces questions over cryptocurrency transfers, gambling jurisdiction and Zhang’s former investment
However, the available information does not establish that Chaichanok participated in any improper decision. Nor does it establish that Suchada influenced the treatment of Shuffle.com. The confirmed starting point remains Zhang’s former 1.47% investment. The dispute concerns when that investment ended, how it was disclosed and whether related activities involved offences.
Furthermore, investigators must determine whether the reported cryptocurrency transactions establish illegal gambling activity involving Thai customers. Sirichok’s claimed ฿118 million financial trail could identify individuals transferring money to the platform.
However, account ownership and the purpose of individual transactions must be established. Investigators must distinguish gambling payments from investment proceeds and unrelated cryptocurrency transfers. They must also examine the company’s overseas corporate arrangements. Meanwhile, the NACC would have responsibility for examining any suspected asset declaration offences.
The DSI has not announced criminal findings against Suchada or Zhang. Nor has it established that Shuffle.com received improper protection from government officials.
Nevertheless, Sirichok’s intervention has moved the controversy beyond a disputed corporate shareholding. He has placed Suchada’s political appointment, her knowledge of Zhang’s investment and the website’s continued accessibility under scrutiny. Furthermore, his submission has provided investigators with additional claims concerning financial transactions and Thai gambling activity.
Sirichok has said he intends to continue pursuing the case. For the former Songkhla MP, the controversy marks a return to national political attention following his 2023 electoral defeat.
Sirichok vows to pursue Shuffle.com questions as DSI examines evidence and Rome prepares
For Suchada, it has brought renewed examination of her husband’s former investment and her previous government position. Meanwhile, the DSI must establish the facts behind the shareholding, financial records and website operations. People’s Party MP Rangsiman Rome is also arranging to provide information to investigators.
Consequently, further evidence submissions are expected as the inquiry continues. On Wednesday, Sirichok maintained his public challenge while suggesting that additional material remained available.
His central question concerns Suchada’s decision to work under the minister responsible for suppressing online gambling. He argues that her acknowledged knowledge of Zhang’s investment makes that appointment particularly relevant. However, investigators have not established that the appointment involved improper conduct.
Row over handling of two online gambling cases related to MPs. Questions of jurisdiction and fair play
Bhumjaithai MP and her husband answer questions of the elite DSI police over links to online gambling
The DSI inquiry remains active, while Suchada continues rejecting suggestions of wrongdoing. Sirichok, meanwhile, has made clear that his campaign will not end with the dispute over Zhang’s shares.
He wants investigators to trace the money, examine the gambling operation and establish why Shuffle.com remained accessible in Thailand. In addition, he has demanded answers concerning possible connections between the business and political officeholders.
The veteran Democrat politician has now placed those questions before the DSI. At the same time, the NACC remains responsible for any investigation into asset declaration offences. Rangsiman Rome is also preparing to submit information concerning the affair. Sirichok insists he has further evidence and intends to continue challenging Suchada’s explanations. The DSI must now determine what the corporate records, financial transactions and other material establish about Shuffle.com’s activities in Thailand.
