Songphon, 23, allegedly hunted his ex-girlfriend through Bangkok with emergency lights flashing before smashing his pickup into her motorcycle. She and her new lover died instantly, mirroring a June vehicle attack that killed two people in Surin too.
A former rescue volunteer is accused of mowing down his ex-girlfriend and her new partner during a midnight Bangkok pursuit. Songphon Khunchamnong, 23, reportedly stalked the couple before ramming their motorcycle with his pickup, killing both instantly. Relatives said Narissara Phengsawang, 24, had previously reported assaults and continuing threats following their breakup. Songphon survived critically injured and remains under police guard, while suspected methamphetamine was recovered from the wreckage. The double killing mirrors a June attack in Surin, where another driver reportedly chased and rammed his girlfriend and a Good Samaritan who offered her a lift. Four people died in the two suspected vehicle rage attacks.
A former rescue volunteer is accused of turning his pickup into a killing machine during a midnight Bangkok pursuit. Police say Songphon Khunchamnong, 23, chased his former girlfriend and her new partner before ramming their motorcycle. Narissara Phengsawang, 24, and Jetphon Thongkhamma, 45, died instantly. Songphon survived with critical injuries and remains in police custody.
The deadly chase ended shortly before 1 am on Thursday, September 3. It happened near Bangkok-Nonthaburi Soi 39 in Bangkok’s Wong Sawang area. Specifically, the collision occurred beside a U-turn beneath the Pink Line railway route. Prachachuen Police Station received the first emergency report at approximately 1 am.
Within minutes, police, doctors, emergency crews and rescue volunteers reached the wreckage. There, they found two bodies beside the central concrete barrier. Narissara and Jetphon had suffered catastrophic injuries. Nothing could be done to save them.
Motorcycle lies crushed as police recover suspected methamphetamine beside the bodies at Bangkok scene
Nearby, their black Honda PCX lay crushed and twisted on the road. The motorcycle had stopped approximately three metres from the bodies. Across the scene, wreckage and personal items remained scattered over the carriageway. Investigators immediately sealed the road and began recording evidence.
Narissara had been riding behind Jetphon when the pickup struck them. On impact, both were hurled violently from the motorcycle. Narissara sustained devastating injuries and died where she landed. Jetphon suffered extensive wounds, including severe injuries to his arms and legs.
Afterwards, their bodies were transported to Phramongkutklao Hospital’s forensic department. Doctors will conduct post-mortem examinations before releasing them to their families. As part of this process, forensic specialists will document the precise causes of death. Those findings will later enter the police case file.
At the same location, police found suspected methamphetamine tablets and crystal methamphetamine. The substances were lying near the wrecked motorcycle and surrounding debris. Consequently, officers photographed, collected and sealed them as evidence. Their source and ownership remain under separate investigation.
Former rescue volunteer survives the wreck as police prepare an intentional-murder case against him
Several metres away stood the battered white pickup linked to Songphon. Its front had been destroyed during the high-speed impact. Notably, rescue-foundation markings remained visible along the vehicle’s body. Emergency warning lights were also fitted to the pickup.
Songphon formerly worked as a rescue volunteer. However, he was no longer serving in that position when the crash occurred. He suffered critical injuries during the collision and required immediate emergency treatment. Rescue workers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for approximately 20 minutes.
Following that intervention, an ambulance rushed Songphon to Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital. Police then contacted hospital staff and requested that he remain in custody. In response, officers placed him under guard while doctors fought to stabilise him. His condition initially prevented investigators from conducting a full interview.
From the outset, police doubted that the deaths resulted from an ordinary traffic accident. Instead, witness accounts and the reported pursuit suggested a deliberate vehicle attack. Investigators therefore began preparing an intentional-murder case. The relationship between Songphon and Narissara became a central part of that inquiry.
According to relatives, Narissara had dated Songphon for approximately one year. Yet she ended their relationship about two months before her death. Her family said Songphon repeatedly assaulted her while they were together. They also reported continuing threats after the separation.
Police trace reported threats before Songphon pursued Narissara and Jetphon through northern Bangkok
Earlier, Narissara had approached Prachachuen Police Station about the reported violence. She entered the matter into the police record and preserved it as evidence. Despite that step, relatives said Songphon continued contacting her. They described threatening and hostile messages after the relationship ended.
Narissara subsequently began seeing Jetphon. On September 3, he rode his Honda PCX to collect her near Wat Liap Rat Bamrung. Unbeknownst to them, Songphon was reportedly waiting nearby in his white pickup. Relatives said he had parked there and was watching Narissara.
Moments later, Songphon saw Narissara climb onto Jetphon’s motorcycle. The couple then left the temple area and headed towards Ratchadaphisek Road. Immediately afterwards, Songphon reportedly started his pickup and followed them. Police believe the fatal pursuit began there.
During the chase, Songphon allegedly switched on the pickup’s emergency warning lights. He then drove close behind the Honda PCX through the Wong Sawang area. Ahead of him, Jetphon continued towards the Defence Services Department. Narissara remained behind him on the motorcycle.
As the pursuit intensified, the two vehicles approached the U-turn near the department. The motorcycle had little protection against the larger pickup bearing down from behind. Finally, police believe Songphon accelerated into the Honda PCX. The pickup struck it with tremendous force.
Pickup smashes both riders into the road as police secure evidence from the deadly Bangkok collision
On contact, the motorcycle was smashed forward and thrown out of control. Both riders were launched onto the road beside the concrete barrier. Narissara suffered catastrophic injuries during the impact. Jetphon was also killed before medical help could reach him.
The pickup continued forward after smashing through the motorcycle. Eventually, it stopped with extensive damage across its front section. Songphon was found critically injured inside or beside the wreckage. Emergency workers immediately began the lengthy effort to keep him alive.
In parallel, police closed the collision site and controlled traffic around the U-turn. Investigators photographed tyre marks, vehicle damage, debris and road structures. Additionally, they recorded the exact positions of the bodies and wrecked vehicles. Those details will help reconstruct the final seconds.
On another front, officers began searching for security-camera footage along the pursuit route. Recordings may show the pickup following the motorcycle from the temple area. They may also capture its speed and position before the impact. Police were expected to examine private and public camera systems.
Separately, detectives began interviewing Narissara’s relatives and other potential witnesses. Their statements covered the former relationship, reported assaults and subsequent breakup. They also described the continuing threats and Narissara’s earlier police record. Investigators added those accounts to the suspected murder file.
Critically injured suspect remains guarded as another deadly vehicle pursuit case emerges from Surin
Because Songphon remained critically injured, police could not immediately complete their questioning. Nevertheless, officers formally kept him under guard at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital. Doctors must first decide when he is medically fit for interview. Until then, investigators will continue assembling physical, digital and witness evidence.
The Bangkok bloodshed followed another suspected vehicle attack barely three months earlier. That case unfolded in Surin during the early hours of June 8. Once again, a woman left a relationship dispute on another man’s motorcycle. Once again, a pursuing vehicle smashed into both riders.
At approximately 2.05 am, the Surin Rescue Foundation received an urgent collision report. The crash happened on Tung Pho–Tha Sawang Road in Mueang Surin district. Shortly afterwards, rescue workers found two people with devastating injuries. Officers from Mueang Surin Police Station were called to investigate.
The woman was identified as 32-year-old Thidarat Phonthong. The motorcyclist was 28-year-old Nattanon Jitharn. At the scene, Thidarat was pronounced dead before rescuers could move her. Nattanon remained alive but was critically injured.
Without delay, emergency workers rushed Nattanon to hospital. He later died despite medical efforts to save him. Meanwhile, police found his motorcycle heavily damaged beside the road. A black saloon car involved in the collision was also recovered.
Dashcam captures knife dispute before passing motorcyclist gives Thidarat a lift away from Arnon
Investigators connected the car to Thidarat’s boyfriend, Arnon Kongkeng, then aged 32. They began reconstructing the argument that preceded the fatal chase. Crucially, the car carried a dashboard camera. Its recording captured part of the confrontation between Thidarat and Arnon.
Police said Thidarat was initially driving the car. During the journey, she and Arnon became involved in a bitter argument. Significantly, the recording reportedly captured Thidarat asking him to put down a knife. She eventually stopped the car and got out.
At that point, Nattanon happened to be passing on his motorcycle. Thidarat approached him and sought help leaving the confrontation. In turn, Nattanon stopped and allowed her to climb onto the back. He had no known connection to the couple or their argument.
The pair then rode away along Tung Pho–Tha Sawang Road. Behind them, police said Arnon took control of the saloon car. Soon afterwards, he started pursuing the motorcycle at speed. The chase continued along the darkened road.
Before long, the saloon car caught the motorcycle carrying Thidarat and Nattanon. Police said the car then struck the smaller vehicle. The violent impact threw both riders from the motorcycle. Thidarat suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Good Samaritan dies as Arnon denies deliberately ramming the motorcycle during the fatal pursuit
Nattanon initially survived but required immediate hospital treatment. Despite those efforts, he later died from his injuries. Thus, a roadside argument ended with two people dead. The passing motorcyclist had merely stopped to offer Thidarat a lift.
In the aftermath, investigators examined both damaged vehicles and reviewed the dashboard-camera recording. They also questioned Arnon about the argument, chase and collision. Initially, Arnon denied deliberately hitting the motorcycle. He maintained that the fatal crash was accidental.
Moreover, Arnon claimed he had not realised Thidarat was riding behind Nattanon. Police did not accept that explanation as sufficient. Based on their evidence, investigators charged him with intentional murder. He was accused of using the saloon car to kill both riders.
Beyond the investigation, Nattanon worked for the Surin Provincial Electricity Authority. He had recently celebrated his birthday with his girlfriend. The couple were planning to marry in January 2027. Instead, he died after stopping to help a stranger escape a confrontation.
The Bangkok and Surin killings remain separate criminal cases involving different defendants. Even so, their documented sequences carry stark similarities. Each case began with a serious dispute involving a woman and her current or former boyfriend. Each woman then left on another man’s motorcycle.
Two separate pursuits leave four dead as police examine intentional-murder cases against both drivers
In both cases, a larger vehicle pursued the motorcycle carrying the woman. Each chase ended when that vehicle struck the motorcycle. Altogether, four people died during the two collisions. Police responded by pursuing intentional-murder cases against both drivers.
For Narissara, the reported danger had developed before the final chase. Her relatives described repeated assaults during her relationship with Songphon. After their breakup, they said threats and unwanted communications continued. Furthermore, she had already recorded the matter at Prachachuen Police Station.
For Thidarat, the final dispute was partly captured by the dashboard camera. The recording reportedly documented her asking Arnon to put down a knife. She then left the car and accepted a passing motorcyclist’s help. Minutes later, both were fatally struck.
Against that background, official and academic records document extensive intimate-partner violence across Thailand. Research indicates around one in six married or cohabiting Thai women has experienced such violence. In addition, public health crisis centres receive more than 30,000 violence cases involving women annually. Those figures cover numerous offences, relationships and circumstances.
Both accused men face legal proceedings after four riders were killed in separate vehicle pursuits
Legally, investigators must establish individual responsibility in each case through admissible evidence. Prosecutors must then decide whether the files support the charges presented. Subsequently, the courts will determine whether either accused man committed intentional murder. Both defendants retain the right to contest the cases.
For now, Songphon remains accused of killing Narissara and Jetphon in Bangkok. He survived the collision but suffered critical injuries. Arnon, meanwhile, faces an intentional-murder charge over the earlier Surin deaths. Both cases continue through Thailand’s criminal justice system.

The final death toll, however, requires no further investigation. Narissara Phengsawang and Jetphon Thongkhamma died beneath Bangkok’s Pink Line route. Thidarat Phonthong died beside a road in Surin. Nattanon Jitharn later died in hospital.
Two motorcycles were destroyed during two separate pursuits. Four people were killed. In each case, police accuse the pursuing driver of using a far larger vehicle as a deadly weapon.
